God's Lonely Man is the sophomore album by singer/songwriter, composer and indie rock musician Pétur Ben. It’s a dense work that’s twined with the key elements of dream pop, art rock and alternative rock and with a considerably large reference in faith and philosophy. It was written, arranged and produced over a course of three years by Pétur and with aid from a large group of his friends that consists of Amiina, Sin Fang, Lay Low, Sigtryggur Baldursson of The Sugarcubes and Kippi Kanínus just to name a few.
The album was released in Iceland in November 2012. It won a prize on the Kraumur Shortlist, received a nomination for the Icelandic Music Awards as album of the year and landed on nearly every list of best releases for 2012 in the Icelandic media. The album has been praised by various international publications, including KEXP.ORG in Seattle.
Born and bred in Reykjavik, Pétur has been playing and writing music since his early juvenile. Although active in the Icelandic underground scene for years, Pétur first became known for playing with Mugison, as well as arranging and writing Mugison's 2004 album, Mugimama Is This Monkeymusic?. and graduated from the composition department at the Reykjavik Academy of Music that same year. The composition degree has come to good use for this indie rock artist. The music to Ragnar Bragason's "Children" and "Parents" were his first film scores and he has been involved in several theatre productions. Most notable are his score for Strindberg's "Dreamplay" directed by Benedikt Erlingsson and his arrangement for "Woyzeck" a Vesturport production with original music by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. His first solo album, "Wine for My Weakness", received raving reviews and won him the Icelandic music award in the category "Best Alternative Album of the Year".
